Ananda Marga Academy, NairobiAnanda Marga Academy was founded in 1992 to provide education for the children of Huruma slum. Huruma, a densely populated area, that has an estimated 400 schools yet according to the chief only 60-70% of the children attend school. Parents, who are mainly low income traders and single parents, find education expensive and the schools lacking attention to the children’s needs. Public schools are free by law but in fact, parents have to bear expenses such as entry into pre-unit, tuition costs and other hidden expenses. Parents see the public schools as being overcrowded and no longer providing mid-term exams or enough individual attention.
Our school is in a rented building but it has attracted increased enrolment throughout the years due to the care for the education and welfare of the pupils. Despite hardships faced by local families who can barely afford a room to rent and two meals a day, parents still send their children to Ananda Marga school. Currently the enrolment is 250 from Kindergarten to Grade 6 . We also have the last cohort of Std 8. Our school also assists many children for free; around 30 orphans and destitute pupils do not pay fees. |
The need for schools is enormous as the enquiry for admission keeps growing each day.
Meeting these needs is getting increasingly difficult. Kindly partner with us to enable these children acquire basic education that will transform their lives. |

Children's Home & School, MombassaAnanda Marga Children's home
In the coastal city of Mombasa WWD has been running a children’s home for girls and an attached school for local Kiembeni children since the early 1990’s. The children’s home is registered as a Children’s Charitable Institution (CCI) under the Department of Children’s Services of Kenya. It provides accommodation, healthy food, clothing, guidance and counselling, education and training to 22 girls from the ages of 5 - 17. Girls who have been orphaned, abandoned and/ or vulnerable benefit from activities which include participation in activities such as meditation, cooking, art classes and environmental care. Young girls are given scope for imaginative play and the older ones are encouraged to develop their talents and interests. Under guidance of qualified staff, the girls gain self-worth and learn how to solve problems. The aim is to give the girls tools to be self-sufficient and productive members of the society. The motto is “Success for the Girl Child.” The Ananda Marga Academy of KIembeni On the same compound as the children’s home, there is a nursery and primary school which was started in 1992. The school is non-profit, private and open to boys and girls of the vicinity. The Ananda Marga Academy of KIembeni currently has 520 children from nursery to Class 8, of which 30 are free and the others pay low school fees. In January of 2023, the first year of Junior Secondary was initiated at the school. The girls of the children’s home benefit from having a school on the same compound. |
What We Need
The school has needs for textbooks, learning materials, art materials and introductory digital devices. There is a plan to build a Junior Secondary wing which will cater for the educational needs of these children. As currently there is no government secondary school in Kiembeni, it would be of great service to the community. For more information contact us. |
